Table of Contents
HTML Code
HTML code is given below, in this code we have a select tag and a button tag.
Id attribute is used to define id of select tag and button tag, a jQuery function will be executed on click event of HTML button.
<select name="lang" id="lang">
<option value="html">HTML</option>
<option value="css">CSS</option>
<option value="javascript">JavaScript</option>
</select>
<button id="btn">Get Second</button>
JQuery Code
JQuery Code is given below, in this code jQuery id selector is used to select the button tag and .click() method is used to bind the click event with the button tag, when button is clicked a jQuery function will be executed.
This function will select the second option of select tag using it's index. The jQuery :eq() Selector and prop() method is used for this purpose.
:eq() Selector is used to target or select the nth index element.
jQuery prop() method sets or returns properties and values of the selected elements.
In this example $('#lang option') will select all options of select tag and using :eq() Selector only second one is selected.
The index of first option is 0, second option is 1 and so on.
<script>
$('#btn').click(function(){
$('#lang option').eq(1).prop('selected', true);
});
</script>
To select third option from select tag.
<script>
$('#btn').click(function(){
$('#lang option').eq(2).prop('selected', true);
});
</script>
To select first option of select tag.
<script>
$('#btn').click(function(){
$('#lang option').eq(0).prop('selected', true);
});
</script>
Note that, We are only changing index number to select different options of select tag.
