PHP ltrim() function
PHP ltrim() function removes white spaces and defined characters from the start of the string.
In this example ltrim() function is used to remove the spaces from start of string.

$string = " HowToCodeSchool.com";
$newString = ltrim($string);
echo $newString;
?>
In above code of PHP, spaces in the start of string are removed.
PHP substr() function
PHP substr() Function also removes a part of string and returns only the other part.
In second example, substr() function is also used to remove the spaces from the start of string.

$string = " HowToCodeSchool";
$newString = substr($string,1);
echo $newString;
?>
Two parameters are used inside substr() function. The first parameter defined in substr() is the string itself, second parameter is the starting point.
